Your Guide To Relaxing Your Hair3 min read

Relaxing your hair should never be a last-minute decision. To prevent damage and to enjoy the best results, always undertake the process only when you are well prepared. The good news is that with the right strategy, products and technique, you can relax you hair safely at home and save on several expensive trips to the salon.

1. Plan Ahead

Never relax hair that has been recently shampooed or co-washed. Give you hair a break of at least seven days before applying chemicals to the strands. Also avoid scratching your scalp or ranking through your hair with a comb to avoid irritation – this can cause burning once the relaxer is applied.

2. Choose The Right Hair Relaxer

With so many different options to choose from, selecting the most appropriate hair relaxer can seem like a daunting proposition. Here, make sure to choose a relaxer strength that works the best with your hair’s natural thickness and texture. It helps to choose a hair relaxer that simultaneously strengths and protects your hair. TCB Naturals No Base Crème Relaxer, for instance, contains natural oils, protein and DNA to leave your hair straight and manageable, while also preserving its body and shine. Take your pick from TCB Naturals No Base Crème Relaxer (Regular) and TCB Naturals No Base Crème Relaxer (Super) depending on your hair’s individual needs.

3. Apply The Relaxer

Separate your hair into ½ inch strands to apply the hair relaxer using an applicator brush. Make sure to coat your hair thoroughly. Try not to apply the relaxer to your scalp and stick to new growth – applying relaxer to already processed hair can cause damage. When rinsing out the relaxer, run hot water through your hair for at least 5-7 minutes. Work a rich conditioner into your hair and immediately rinse out. Wash your hair with a revitalising shampoo and rinse again.
