On the face of it, braids are a pretty low-maintenance style. However, they do need a little regular care to keep looking their best. A good way to maintain your braids is with a regular moisturising regimen, which involves moisturising your braids at least 2-3 times a week. A good moisturising routine will also make you braids easier to detangle when you take them down.

Here’s how to go about it.

Step 1: Dampen Your Hair

Spray your braids with water or hop into the shower until your hair is damp, but not soaked through. If you are using a water spray, you could add a few drops of tea tree, lavender or peppermint essential oil to stimulate your scalp, reduce itching and add a pleasant scent.

Step 2: Apply Leave-in Conditioner

A good quality conditioner, such as TCB Naturals Hair Food, can work wonders to rejuvenate your braids. TCB Naturals Hair Food contains lanolin to enhance moisture retention on your scalp and hair, and Vitamin E to rebuild and repair damaged follicles and promote hair growth. Work the conditioner into your braids and massage thoroughly.

Step 3: Seal Your Hair

Work a little jojoba, grapeseed, avocado, caster or coconut oil into your braids – roll each braid gently between your palms to coat the strands thoroughly.

Step 4: Use A Leave-in Treatment

For extra moisture, use a good quality leave-in treatment such as TCB Naturals Leave-in Treatment on your braids. These treatments make your hair more manageable and keep your hair shiny and smooth. For best results, use this treatment on your hair at night before going to bed, and cover your hair with a shower cap. Your body’s natural heat will help the conditioner to penetrate deeper into the strands.
